What is Property Probate Insurance?

Property Probate Insurance or Unoccupied Probate Insurance is designed to protect the estate of a passed on individual or estates that are left unoccupied, whilst going through the probate process. Whilst the property is unoccupied, the potential for property damage due to issues, like water leaks, increases. Likewise, the risk of break-ins, theft and malicious damage also heightens.

By obtaining insurance for your properties in probate, heirs and beneficiaries can safeguard the estate's assets, ensuring that any unexpected events do not negatively impact the value or condition of the property. This type of insurance can provide peace of mind to our clients across the UK, and help alleviate some of the stress associated with managing an estate in probate.

Why could you need Property Probate Insurance?

At Estate Insure, we can offer you the right insurance policy to fit your needs and requirements. During the probate process, while you are managing the estate, their home may remain unoccupied for an extended period, spanning weeks or even months. In such cases, a standard Home Insurance policy is not suitable, as it typically becomes invalid after the property is unoccupied for 30–60 days, or it may no longer provide full cover after a specific time frame.

This is why having Probate House Insurance is necessary throughout the duration of the probate proceedings. This insurance is designed to fill in the gaps and address the limitations that can arise with a standard Home Insurance policy, providing the necessary cover to protect the property while it is unoccupied during the legal process.

Estate Insure Probate Property Insurance provides full cover in respect of unoccupied properties and properties in Probate. Aimed at removing the hassle associated with arranging insurance on your client’s behalf, there are no forms to complete and to ensure you benefit from the highest levels of cover at an affordable price; we have negotiated a flexible policy providing protection for 35 days, 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on your requirements.  In most cases, cover and documents are issued within 30 minutes.

There are many reasons why properties may be left unoccupied. They may be undergoing renovation or refurbishment; awaiting probate, sale or left vacant while the owner is hospitalised or taken into care.

We can also provide cover if a property is occupied by family members or let to professionals whilst in probate. Whatever the circumstances, it’s essential that properties are fully protected with a comprehensive insurance policy and often, standard home insurers reduce cover after 30 days of unoccupancy or refuse to continue cover.
